The Hon. H. G. R. Mason, AttorneyGeneral, left Wellington for Auckland by last night’s express.

The Hon. G. R. Hunter, M.L.C., left Wellington for the south by the Wahine on Saturday night. The Hon. Mr. Justice Reed will preside at the Auckland Supreme Court this week.

The Hon. Mr. Justice Ostler will arrive in Wellington this morning from Auckland for the sittings of the Court of Appeal, which commence to-day. The Hon. Mr. Justice Fair, Auckland, is in "Wellington for the same purpose. Rear-Admiral the Hon. E. R. Drummond, Commodore of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, returned to Auckland by the Limited express from 'Wellington on Saturday, after attending the opening of the second session of Parliament.

The Rt. Rev. Dr. J. A. Kempthorne, before his retirement Bishop of Lichfield, and Mrs.. Kempthorne arrived at Wellington from the south on Saturday, and are the guests of the Rev. F. M. Kempthorne at the vicarage, Karori. Dr. Kempthorne preached at St. Peter’s Church yesterday morning, and at St. Mary’s, Karori, yesterday, afternoon and last night. Mr. J. R. McKenzie was a passenger for Lyttelton on Saturday night.

Mr. D. Reese returned to Christchurch from Wellington by Saturday night’s steamer express. Mr. N. D. Binnie, assistant manager in 'Wellington of the Port Line, returned from the south on Saturday. Mr. H. B. Ginger, of Barton Ginger and Company, Limited, Wellington, is to return -by the Awatea to-day after spending several weeks in Australia Mr. G. A. K. Simmers, assistant railway engineer in Christchurch, has received notice of his transfer to Auckland in a similar capacity. The Rev. Father H. Geaney, of St. Patrick's College, Wellington, returned to Wellington on Saturday after visiting Christchurch. Mr. T. W. West was re-elected chairman and Mr. B. Seth-Smith vice-chair-man, of the Christ'chureh Technical College Board of Governors at a meeting of the board last week. Captain A. 11. L. Sugden, New Zealand Staff Corps, formerly of Napier, returned to the Dominion by tlie Akaroa after taking a small arms course in England extending over two years. Flying Officer E. B. Waters, of No. 1 (Army Co-operation) Squadron, New Zealand Air Force, has been appointed to t.lie Royal New Zealand Air Force, and will leave Auckland this week for duty at Wigram Aerodrome. Mr. W. B. Cunningham, manager of tlie Dunedin branch of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., has been transferred to Timaru. His place will be taken by Mr. 11. H. Dobie, present manager of tlie Timaru branch.

Mr. Raymond Hill will leave Christchurch early this week to take up an appointment as residential agricultural master at Te Ante College, Hawke's Bay. Mr. Hill is a graduate of Hawkesbury Agricultural College, New Soul’ll Wales, and has lately been a student at Canterbury University College.

Dr. James Ritchie, Cambridge, lias been appointed medical superintendent of tlie Waikato Hospital in succession to Dr. K. Millcock, who lias resigned. Dr. Ritchie is a New Zealander who was formerly a niemlier of the teaching profession. He has the JI.A. and B.Sc. degrees, in addition to medical degrees which lie gained at Edinburgh University. Dr. Ritchie was formerly superintendent of the Thames Hospital.

Mr. H. L. Gibson, who for the past six years has been district traffic manager of railways at Dunedin, will retire on superannuation at the end of the present month, after 40 years’ service with the department. Mr. Gibson joined the service in 1897. A keen student of traffic problems, Mr. Gibson lias gained a wide and valuable knowledge of this branch of railway work, and his experience lias proved invaluable to his department when, during the past four years, he has represented it at sittings of transport authorities.
