Hutt Valley Guests of Olympic
BROOKLYN TEAMS RACE The Olympic Harrier Club had as ita guests members and supporters of the Hutt Valley club on Saturday.. About 35 runners of both dubs participated. The run started from the Methodist church hall; following a fine trail laid by Barber and A. Richardson, which led from Brooklyn, up the hill, along the road to Mornington. continued to the end of the ridgway. and then left the road. The paper then lay along the ridge, followed the ridge right down toward the sea. came out into Severn .Street, and turned into Happy Valley Road. The home run lay up Happy Valley Road, and back to Brooklyn. . , . ~ A run-in for the Olympic members, held over the 250 yards resulted in a win for D. Duigan. with A. W. McNaught second and L. Meyers third. In the colts' run-in. A. Mai and A. Matthews dead-heated for first place, and IV. Shaw was third. Afternoon ten was served in the Returned Soldiers’ Association’s clubroom by the women supporters, and at its conclusion speeches expressing the mutual goodwill existing between the two clubs were made by the presidents and club captains of both chibs. . Next Saturday the Olympic club will hold its annual teams’ race for the Philp Shield at Miramar.
Brooklyn Club
The annual teams’ handicap race for the pewter pot was held by the Brooklyn club. Five teams of four competed, under sealed handicaps, ami in a close finish the team composed of C. McCaiinan, M. Moyer, L. Todd and H. Walsh won by one point. D. Pederson made fastest time, taking 28.50 for the course, which was a little over four miles and. a halt. C. Appleby took 29.11 and C. McCalman 29.19. In a sealed handicap event, run in conjunction with the teams' race, A. Thompson gained fastest corrected time, with McCahnan second. Starting nt Broadway, Miramar, the course led west and then along the tramline to the Miramar terminus. At this stage Appleby was leading from McCalman and Pederson. Crossing the hill to Scorching Bay, Pederson increased his lead and maintained it along the Worser Bay Rond and through the Seatoun tunnel to win comfortably. The, race finished at the residence of Mr. R. Watterson, Broadway, where members were afterward entertained at afternoon tea.
Scottish Club
The weekly run of the Scottish club was held from the residence of Mr. G. Zander, Epuni Street, about 30 runners participating. Half of the runners held a friendly game of Rugby on Tanera Crescent Park, while the remainder ran down Aro Street. Abel Smith. Taranaki, Haining and Vivian Streets. From Cambridge Terrace the runners did one lap of the Bennett Memorial course. On returning homo all were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Zander to afternoon tea. Mr. W. Ballnntyne, 'sen., the club president, thanked the host and hostess for their hospitality. Next Saturday the consolation race
will be held at Woburn. The field this year is very select, and a good race should result. The train will leave Welliii':t'".i station at 1.45 p.m.
C.Y.M. Club
C.Y.M. flub held an eight-mile handicap run on Saturday from St. Paul’s. WniwetU. There was a large muster and competition was very keen. The trail led from White’s Line to the river, along the stop-bank, across the pipe bridge, and on to Point Howard. Here the trail turned up to Carnation Castle, on over the Wainui Range, down the pipe line and back to St. Paul's. A. Callaghan ran jyell all the way and was first in, with a handicap of fdur minutes. He was followed by C. Peter? and A. Thoman. A. Porter made the fastest time. After the race the runners were entertained at afternoon tea by the women siumorters. The next run. the consolation race, will ie the final race of the season. It will
be held from the residence of Mr. Scott Puriri Street.
Varsity Club
The Varsity club held a special eightmilg sealed handicap race on Saturday afternoon for'the recently-presented Endeavour Cup. The course led from Victoria College, through Northland, over the wireless hill to Wadestown, and returned to the college along Wilton Road and through Northland. R. Scrymgeour made fastest time, D. Cairns was second, and O’Flynn was third. On the revised handicaps, Newall proved the winner. Afternoon tea was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. McLean.
