SHEEPSKINS AND HIDES
Wellington Prices Lower There was a sharp decline in the prices of sheepskins at the sale held yesterday by the Wellington brokers. Hides were also lower, but calfskins improved. Sheepskins: There was rather a restricted demand and a rather sharp fall in prices was recorded, sound-peltea lots declining by Id. to Id. per lb., while inferior and damaged parcels were very erratic of sale. Hides: The market was again easier, heavy, medium, and lightweights declining by 3-Bd. to Id. per lb. Light kip and yearling, however, were in demand and realised improved prices, as did calfskins, which sold at -Jd. to id. advance on last sale’s rates Tallow: There was very little demand and prices showed a further decline. The range of prices is as follow^: — Dry sheepskins: Halfbred, IOJ-d. (to 16d.; fine crossbred, 14}d. to 16d.; medium crossbred, 13 Jd. £p 15fd.; coarse crossbred, 131-d. to 15}d.; half wools, 1-d. to 15}d.; quarter wools, Bd. to 13d.; pelts, 5Jd. to lOd. Salted skins: Full wools, to 11/-. Wellington Poultry Market Prices ot live poultry in the Wellington market are quoted by Townsend and Paul, Ltd., as follows: — Fowls: White Leghorns, hens, 2/9 to 4/- each; cockerels, 3/- to 4/3; pullets, 2/3 to 4/3. Black Orpingtons: Hens, heavy 4/9 to 7/3 each, medium 3/3 to 4/9; cockerels, heavy 4/6 to 6/6, medium 3/- to 4/6. Rhode Island Reds, 6/- to 7/-.
