AUCKLAND CITY MILK SUPPLY
Case For Municipal Control By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, September 3. The case for the establishment of a municipal milk supply in Auckland was presented this week to the Minister of Agriculture, in Wellington, on behalf of the Labour movement in Auckland by Mr. J. T. Jennings, president of the Labour Representation Committee, and Mr. J. Purtell, trades union secretary, both members of the city council. They were accompanied by the Hon. B. Martin, M.L.G., deputymayor, and Messrs. W. J. Lyon and A. G. Osborne, M.P.’s. Messrs. Jennings and Purtell returned to Auckland to-day. They said that as they had to report to the Labour Representation Committee they were unable to disclose the nature of the representations or the Hon. W. Lee Martin’s reply. In a joint statement, however, they indicated that they were satisfied the proposal would receive due consideration by the Minister. They said it had to be remembered that the Labour majority on the city council was elected on a programme which included the munlcipalisation of the milk supply which, ip 7 their opinion, would effect economy and provide a hygienic supply of milk.
