ENGLISH CHANNEL SWIM

First Effort of Season London, August 4. Tom Blower, of Nottingham, who is 23 years old, and whom his pilot describes as “a human torpedo and the fastest Channel swimmer I have piloted,” opened the Channel-swimming season. He started from Cape Grisnez at 4 a.m. and landed at Dover at 6.26 p.m. The conditions were favourable. Blower’s official tinie was 13hr. 29 min. The record for the Channel swim is llhr. smin., and was established by Georges Mieliel (France), on September 10, 19211. The feat has now been, performed 22 times.
