KIDNAPPED CHILD

Seized by Real Parents and Surrendered to Police Chicago, August 4. After an investigation last night the police claimed that .the child daringly kidnapped from the home of a wealthy song publisher and hotel owner named Horst is not Mrs. Horst’s, and her sister confirmed this. The police and the hospital where the baby is alleged to have been born have no records in the name of Horst. Mrs. Horst is held “in technical custody,” although she has been permitted to return to her home, which is guarded by the police. Later, a couple named John and Lydia Regan surrendered the baby to the police. They said that it was born to Mrs. Regan out of wedlock, and that the doctor gave him to Mrs. Horst without the mother’s consent. They had searched for the child for two years, and seized the baby when Mrs. Horst refused to give it up. The Horsts and the Regans met dramatically at the State Attorney's office. The Regans said they bore no malice to the Horsts, who admitted that Donald was not their child. The authorities decided not to prosecute the Regans. It is announced that the court will decide the custody of Donald, who is meanwhile in an orphanage.
