BUREAU WORKERS
Revised Scale of Wages
A new scale of wages for bureau employees is announced in the Public Service Journal. “Tlie association has been making continued representations to the Public Service Commissioners that the wages of these employees should be reviewed, particularly in relation to the value of the work performed by the individual,” states the journal in an editorial. “It is with some satisfaction, therefore, that the following revised scale of wages has been provided by the Public Service Commissioners during the month:—
“The commissioners advise that it is not proposed that any bureau worker will at the moment proceed to the maximum of £5 a week. Later, the workers will, in the course of their service and subject to good conduct, and hawing in mind the nature of their .duties, proceed to the higher scales. “The commissioners also state that it is intended in the early future to make a review of the value of the work performed by all bureau workers for the purpose of remunerating their services in accordance with the revised scale. “At the time when the minimum salary for married men was extended to this group of employees, the association was informed by the commissioners that the value of the work of the individual would be assessed. Something ban been done in this direction already, but we feel, in fairness to this group of employees, that the investigations should be speeded up.”
