KELBURN PARISH
Rev. G. M. McKenzie Appointed Vicar The Rev. Gordon Melville AlcKenzie, 8.A., has been appointed vicar of St. -Michael and All Angels’ parish, Kelburn. He has -been acting vicar of St. Paul’s since the departure for England of Canon P. James. A member of a well-known North Canterbury family, Air. AlcKenzie was born at Rangiora. He was it student at the Teachers’ Training College, and later taught at the Greymouth ami West Christchurch District High Schools. For two years he wa« boys' work director of the Y.AI.C.A. in Chrislchurch. At the ibeginuiug of 1927 he was appointed first assistant and resident master at the Cathedral Grammar School, remaining until his ordination in 1931. He was for a time sports master, and in charge of the cadet corps. He came to AVellington in August. 1931, as curate at St. Paul’s Pro-Cathe-dral, and was later appointed vicar at Taihape. For some years, Air. AlcKenzie was Dominion secretary of Toe 11, and chairman of the New Zealand Student Christian Alovement. He wag also for some years secretary of the New Zealand Historical Association, and wrote the history of Christchurch Cathedral for its jubilee in 1931. He was the first editor of “Outward Bound,” the magazine of the Anglican Bible Class Union. In January, 1935, Mr. McKenzie was appointed headmaster of the Cathedral Grammar. School, Chdstehiirch. ami held that position until the end of last year, when he was appointed actingvicar of St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, AVellington.
