PROMOTING SOCCER

Queen Carnival Started In order to raise funds for the promotion of Soccer, the Wellington Football Association, in collaboration with its affiliated clubs and the Wellington Referees’ Association, is holding a queen carnival which is to conclude with a ball in the Town Hall about the first week in October.. The Wellington area has been divided into sectors and the war i s on between the rival committees which have arranged a number of entertainments in aid of their respective queens. Mr. E. J. McQueen has been appointed chairman of the central committee consisting of delegates from the W.F.A., the referees’ association and the clubs. The association is to receive 40 per cent, of the proceeds and the clubs 00 per cent. The following queens have been chosen: — Northern: Miss Nola Murphy, Khandallah. Eastern suburbs: .Miss Jessie McKeen, 3 Crawford Road. Interhouse: Miss Oreti Dawson, 382 The Esplanade, Island Bay. Northern districts include the Onslow. Petone, Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt clubs and the Hutt Valley League; and eastern suburbs, Seatoun, Miramar, Rangers, Diamond, Scottish Wanderers and Swifts. For the interhouse queen, the Wellington Football Association, the referees’ association, the interhouse league and the Marist club are working. With votes at Id. each, the position of the queens is at present as follows: — Eastern Suburbs 4590 Interhouse 720 Northern districts 720
