MILK IN SCHOOLS

Progress of Palmerston North Scheme Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, August 4. Reporting on the progress of the scheme for supplying school children in the city with a daily ration of milk, Mr. J. A. Graut, chairman, said at last night’s meeting of the Russell Street School Committee that pasteurisation of the milk would be undertaken at Massey College, and distribution also would be carried out from there. “The only thing still required is a supply of raw milk for the pasteuriser,” he continued, “and I understand that a departmental officer has been sent with instructions to arrange for this. I expect the supply will be available by the commencement of the next term. No burden of washing containers will fall on the school staffs. The milk will be delivered in crates of 24 half-pint bottles with straws, and. after it has been consumed, the botfles will be removed to the cleanser.”
