WORKSHOPS’ BALL

Hundreds Attend Annual Hutt Social REWARD OF PREPARATION The Hutt Railway Workshops Hall presented a gay scene last night, when hundreds of dancers attended the eighth annual workshops ball. As usual with workshops socials there was a bright and sociable touch about the dance. The result fully justified the initiative, originality, and enthusiasm of the organisers, who spent weeks in preparation. The decorations were vivid and effective. Huge canopies of paper streamers were suspended from the ceiling, and gay long, circular electric-light shades provided another festive touch. Smaller Japanese shades and greenery completed an harmonious scheme. An outstanding feature was the landscape painting by Mr. Ruben Parr, whieh formed an effective background to the stage. Twinkling, multi-coloured lights inside and out assisted the colourful effect. The suppertables colours were pale blue and pink, with Iceland poppies and birch in pleasing contrast. Mr IV. Smith and Mr. G. Thompson were joint M.C.’s. and the Embassy Orchestra provided the music. An apology was received from the Minister of Railways, Hon. I). G. Sullivan.
