Archbishop of York’s Sermon London, August 3. The Archbishop of York, the Most Rev. William Temple, opening a world conference on faith and order at Edinburgh, delivered an outspoken sermon on the evils of a divided Church.

“Even the ordinary lay fold Is readier to come together and face the resurgence of paganism than leaders o f ecclesiastical organisations who are intent on maintaining their traditions and keeping their organisations in o f York order,” he said. “How can the Church call men to the worship of the one God if it is calling them to rival shrines?”
