Investiture of King Farouk Cairo, July 29. Scenes of great enthusiasm marked (he investiture and acclamation of King Farouk, as a result of which lie becomes the world's youngest reigning monarch. . Huge crowds lined the route of the procession from the palace to Parliament. where a brilliant gathering, ineluding the Queen Mother and Princesses, witnessed the taking of the oath ceremony in the Chamber of Deputies. There was uo Coronation, as modern Egypt lias no crown. Significant of the Westernisation of tlie East, women’s faces were almost uncovered at the investiture. The Queen Mother, the Princesses, ladies of the Court, and others wore small white gauze veils which covered only the chin. The King took Ids seat on a throne of gold and green velvet, overhung by a canopy surmounted by a massive crown. This, and a crown outside the building iv.ld aloft by four eagles, each 40ft. high, were symbols of tlie King’s office. .Prominent among sightseers were sheiks and fierce-looking desert tribesmen iu flowing robes.
