FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.
Changeable in west, fair to fine in east.
Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day :—- . A depression is passing away eastward off the South Island and an anti-cyc one centred over eastern Australia now covers the Tasman Sea and northern
New Zealand. . Westerly winds at first in parts of the Cook Strait area, but otherwise sou - westerlies prevailing; moderate to strong generally an 1 in , plaees reachmg gale force, but later decreasing; veering again to westerlies to-day in the tar Seas rough on the west coast and about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere> in New Zealand waters moderate to rather rough in coastal waters, but rougher off shore. . Strong south-westerly winds and rough seas in the eastern Tasman Sea, but wind and sea shortly moderating. Weather changeable, with further passing showers ■" scattered showers probable also on the east coast south of Cook Strait , still mainly fair to fine, however, in eastern areas, and conditions improving to-day in most districts.
