American swimming devotees are confident that in 12-year-old Pasty .McWhorter, they have a girl who, if she makes only the improvement the stamina of three years’ growth should assure, will be first home in the Olympic 100 metres free-style event at Tokio in 1940. At New York, a few weeks back, in a 25-yard pool, this remarkable infant swam 100 vards in 1.4 3-5, and by last mail came word that she has since reduced the time to 1.3 4-5.
