Board Members Favour Beautification Desire to assist in improving the appearance of Wellington waterfront areas was expressed by members of the Wellington Harbour Board at. its meeting yesterday when a letter was received from the beautifying society suggesting that, if the board were considering taking advantage of the Government’s oiler of a subsidy for unemployment relief, the board might cooperate with local bodies in planting trees on and tidying up waterfront areas. The chairman, Mr. D. J. McGowan, said that Air. R. McKeen, M.P., had made the very good suggestion that the board take advantage of the subsidy. The executive officers of the board had not had time to draw up plans, but, no doubt, something would be done. Mr. W. 11. Price said he was in sympathy with attempts to improve the waterfront. Some parts were not a credit bo the capital city. The board had made a good iob of the land neai the boat harbour, and he would’ like to see further work of the kind done. The board should co-operate. with the city council, said Mr. M. A. Eliott. The chairman said he was quite sure that work of the kind Mr. Price had mentioned would be taken into consideration. The board had always agreed to requests from the city council.
