Charged with forging a Reserve Bank £5 note, and fraudulently obtaining a motor-tire and £l/16/9 in money by representing that the note was good and valid, Charles Alfred Remmers, alias Jones, objected to Detective-Ser-geant P. Doyle’s application that he be remanded to Auckland, when he was brought before Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday. “The police have had seven months to gather evidence and prepare their case,” he said. “If they have sufficient evidence to hold me, they should have enough to go on with the case." "It: has taken all that time, and the entire police force of New Zealand to locate this man,” said the detective-sergeant. The remand was granted.
Possibly on account of the brilliant sunshine at Wellington yesterday, the community sing held in the Grand Opera House was not particularly well attended by the public. Mr. Will Mason was the song leader and Mr. Frank Crowther proved a bright and resourceful accompanist. The receipts amounted to £ll/3/1.
