The National Boxing Association rates Max Schmeling (Germany) as the No. 1 contender for the heavyweight championship and recommends that he be matched for the title on the basis of “pure sportsmanship.” The association names James J. Braddock as the second contender. LIGHTWEIGHT BOUT New York, July 22. The Filipino Ceferino Garcia knocked out the Mexican Bobby Pacho, in the ninth round of a boxing contest. It is expected that Garcia will be matched with Barney Ross for the lightweight title in September. BLATCH TO BOX GUGGINO New York, July 23. The Australian lightweight boxer Alf Blatch, has been matched with “Red” Guggino for next Thursday, instead of 'Zivie, who is off-colour. Blatch’s manager, Charlie Lucas, told the Australian Associated Press agency tihat Guggino was ollicially rated sixth among the lightweights and will provide a stiff test, but Blatch’s form is better than ever before in his life. He has overcome his nervousness and has settled down to the climate. His future is dependent upon his showing against Guggino, and good matches have been promised to him if he is successful.
