Jean Paton Recital An attractive selection of ’cello music was played by Miss Jean Baton, Puimerstbu North, in her recital at NimmoM Hail on Saturday night. A young student, she bus made excellent progress in her chosen field, and shows every promise of developing into :i musician of note. She has good technical control, her spiccato bowing being especially neatly executed. Iler first, item, the dignified "Sonata in G Minor” (Eccles), was well received, and she impressed with Lalo’s “Concerto in 1) Minor,” which takes 30 minutes to play, and is rarely associated with student performances. Her best effort of the evening. “Sonata in E Minot'” (Brahms), for 'cello and piano, showed a very good musical appreciation. Of the short pieces the fascinating ‘'Chanson Vilihgeoise,” by Popper, was milsin'nding, being delightfully played. She was accompanied by Esmer Rickard. As assisting artist. Miss Margaret Feisi, mezzo-soprano, in operatic and vocal solos, was heard to good effect in “O Mio Fcrnamlo." from “La Favorita.” by Donizetti. ami in “Like to tile Damask Rose, by Elgar, and “The Jocund Dance." by Davies. Both students were heartily applauded for their work, and bad to respond to several encores. They are pupils of Mr. Hamilton Dickson. Wellington, who pre•ented tlie recital, and who played the 'ccompaniments for Miss" Feist's songs.
