SCOTTISH HARRIERS

Fitly members of the Scottish Harriers Club held their weekly run from Island Bay on Saturday. As a respite from serious running, they ran in a single pack in charge of the club captain. After leaving the surf sheds, Brighton Street was followed for a distance, then up the right-of-way on to the hill past the trig station. The road along the ridge was followed for a mile, then the steep descent into the gully brought the runners on to Houghton Bay Road and thence to View Road, the zig-zag off this bringing them on to Queen's Drive. On reaching Lyall Bay beach, the runners were splil into two “rugby” teams — the "Spi'ingbiieks” and "Hawkland,” Foster mid Stevens being the respective captains. The game that followed, although slightly unorthodox, was nevertheless fast and open. The return to Island Bay was via the Marine Drive. Afternoon tea brought a successful outing to a close.
