WEEK-END GOLF

Paekakariki Outplayed By Titahi WATT CUP CONTEST Guy Horne in Form For the second Saturday in succession, weather conditions were unfavourable for Wellington goiters at the week end. A strong and cold northerly wind brought drizzling rain almost throughout the afternoon, causing fairways and greens to be heavy, and stances and grips insecure. The chief event on Saturday was the Watt Cup match on the Titahi links, which saw Titahi beat Paekakariki by ten games to two. Following are the results, the Titahi player being mentioned first in each instance: — J. L. Black beat A. I. .Murray, 5 and i. . , D. A. Dacre beat A. J. Craighead, o and 1. A. W. Parker beat A. They started off well by halving the first two holes in bogey 4. Black was in his deadliest putting form, holing a 21-foot putt on the first green, and then sinking a 24-footer for a win in 3 to 4 at the short third. The Paekakariki captain had travelled up from Christchurch on Saturday morning, and probably for this reason was not as steady as usual. Black rang on 3's at the fifth and ninth, and. out in 38, was 4 up at the turn. The Titahi man had a bit of luck at the seventh (319 yards), where he laid his opponent a stymie, and,' in attempting to screw around this, Murray knocked Black’s ball into the hole. Black became 5 up when he took the tenth (133 yards), in 3 to 4, and indifferent play by both saw Black take the game by 5 up and 4 to go. P. A. Dacre (Titahi) and A. J. Craighead had a close fight in Ao. 2 position. Neither played well on the out journey, and headed for home all square. Dacre finished strongly to win by 3 and 1. N. W. Parker (Titahi) had to give of his best to defeat A. McKenzie by the narrowest possible margin. W. Marchant (Titahi) made a great recovery to defeat the veteran, A. Gollop, by 2 up. Playing with his. customary steadiness. Gollop was 4 up with 7 to go. but here Marchant made his run to take the game by 2 up. W. Gollop (Paekakariki) played very steadily to defeat F. B. Carr by 4 and 2. Carr, who had been putting brilliantly at practice in the morning, completely lost touch with that important club. The Titahi players, T. H. R. Boon and his son..H. C. Boon, were in the best form. T. H. R. Boon went out in 39 to stand 5 up on F. Smith, and went on strongly to take the game by S and 6. H C. Boon accounted for A.
