Crescent Players' Birthday.
' About 350 young people were present ! on Saturday night at a most successful dance held in an attractivelydecorated studio in Manners Street to celebrate the first birthday of the Crescent Players, a band of embryo repertory players and thespians. An 1 excellent orchestra, and one that was ' hard pressed to comply with the many requests for encores, played from a dais with a Maori setting. A sit-down supper was greatly appreciated and was served in an adjoining room. During the evening loudly-applauded items were given by Miss Jean Cerchi and Mr. Graham Murdoch. The hostess for the dance was Mrs. A. O. Murdoch, who was wearing a pink and black patterned frock of triple crepe, and the committee, to whose efforts much of the success of the dance was due, comprised Mr. Ewen Scott (president), Miss Iris Westrupp (wearing dusky pink net over taffeta), Miss Mary Wilson (in Coronation blue moire taffeta with tunic of matching net), Mr. Peter Ballard, Mr. Geoff Lloyd and Mr. A. Newton (secretary). The M.C.’s were Mr. Peter Ballard and Mr. Geoff Lloyd. Hockey Club Dance. At the Scout Hall, Karori, on Saturday night, the Karori West Women's Hockey Club held its annual dance at which there was a good attendance. The evening went off with a good swing to excellent music, there being the minimum of delay between dances, all present thoroughly enjoying themselves. The M.C. for the dance was Mr. E. Lewer, valuable assistance also being rendered by Mr. McKelvie. A tempting supper was served by an energetic committee of women. Among the many present was Mr. R. Guthrie, lion, secretary of the Wellington Women’s Hockey Umpires’ Association, and Mrs. Guthrie.
