BARCELONA SHELLED
Bombardment by Insurgent Warship (Received July 23, 11.30 p.m.) Barcelona, July 23. The insurgent warship Canarias fired 12 shells at Barcelona, killing four and injuring fifteen. The shelling lasted 25 minutes. Shore batteries replied, and aeroplanes chased the cruiser out to sea. The shelling followed the same cruiser’s bombardment of a number of northern coastal villages, including Palamos Mataro, earlier in the day. GERMAN NAVAL AIR BASES Paris, July 22. The “Echo de Paris” asserts that Germans are preparing naval air bases, including a submarine harbour, at Melilla, Alhuecmas, Larache, Ifni, Rio de Oro, and also in the Canary Islands.
