Mrs, Roosevelt

Woman President for the United States Mrs. franklin d. roosevelt. wife of President Roosevelt, believes that there will one day be a woman president of the United States. She voiced this conviction during a broadcast to graduating classes of colleges throughout the country, recently. But she added that “that day is not yet here. “We women,” she said, “have still to prove ourselves.” At present she did not believe that the country as a whole would have enough confidence in a woman president. The wife of the President also expressed her approval of the use of cosmetics, praising hygiene courses in schools that teach girls how to dress properly and how to apply make-up. “In my day,” she said, “of course no girl used cosmetics, but to-day it isn’t taboo, and I think it is much more sensible to know how to use cosmetics correctly and becomingly, if you are going to use them at all.” Mrs. Roosevelt urged students to road more in their spare time. She had been “very much surprised,” she confessed, to discover at a recent White House party that not one of the boys or girls present had “read any Kipling.” If the cook has the misfortune to spill grease on the kitchen table, she may save herself a great deal of trouble by sprinkling the stain at once with coarse salt. This prevents the grease from sinking into the wood; or, if spilled on the floor, dash cold water over it so as to harden it quickly and prevent it from sinking into the boards. —“J.G.,” Karori. , To slice tomatoes finely for sandwiches. use a broad-saw.
