Rugby Championships Resume WOMEN’S HOCKEY TRIAL MATCHES The Wellington Rugby Union will resume its grade championship competitions this afternoon, when the following senior matches will be decided Senior A, First Division: Athletic v. Marist, Athletic Park; Wellington v. Poneke, Anderson Park ; Wellington College 0.8. v. .Eastbourne, Eastbourne; Hutt v. University, Hutt Rec. No. 1 ; Petone v. Johnsonville, Petone No. 1. Senior A, Second Division : Oriental v. St. Patrick’s 0.8., Kilbirnie No. 1; Miramar v. Athletic, Polo No. 1; Wellington v. Petone, Petone No. 2; Pirates v. Poneke, Wakefield No. 3. .Senior B: Hutt A v. Wellington, Hutt Rec. No. 2; Hutt B v. Marist, Trentham Camp; Wellington College 0.8. v. University, Lyall Bay No. 2; Eastbourne v. Porirua, Prince of Wales No. 1. Play will start at 3 o’clock. League Football. The Wellington Rugby League will begin its competition for the Walmsley Shield for seniors and the Buckland Cup for reserve grade teams this afternoon. The draw is as follows:— Senior: St. George v. Newtown, Newtown Park, 2.45 p.m.; Petone v. Randwick, Randwick School, 2.45 p.m.; Central, a bye. Reserve grade: St. George v. Newtown, Newtown Park, 1.30 p.m.; Petone v. Technical College B, Petone Recreation, 12.15 p.m.; Anglican Home v. Lower Hutt (postponed). Men’s Hockey. Chief interest in the men's hockey matches in Wellington to-day will centre in the meeting of the championship leaders, Karori B, and Hutt, who have shown such improved form of late that they are now second, equal with Huia, on the championship ladder. They will meet on No. 8 ground at Karori Park at 2.45. On No. 7 ground Wesley will be faced with a big hurdle in Karori A, who have now won four games in a row, including their match with Huia a fortnight ago. On No. 2 ground Universitv and Wellington should l>e well matched. At Nar Nai Huia will meet Technical. Senior - B fixtures are as follows:— Karori A v. Karori B, Karori No. 6, 2.45 p.m.; Petone v. Huia B, Nai Nai No. 2.45 p.m.; Hutt tv. University, Nai Nai No. 3, 2.45 p.m.; Huia A v. Technical, Hutt Recreation) 2.45 p.m.; Taubmans v. Wellington, Crawford Green, 2.45 p.m. Wesley win from Training College by default. <■ Wotnen’s Hockey. Women’s hockey in Wellington this afternoon will be confined to trial matches in all grades from which the representative teams will be eelected. Senior A grade trials will be held at Kilbirnie. At 2 p.m. the A and B teams will meet and at 3 p.m. Probables will play Possibles. The senior B grade trial match will be played at Karori Park at 2 P-m. Players are requested to be prepared, to start punctual to time. The. junior, intermediate and third grade trials will be held at Newtown Park, the juniors at 3 p.m - . and intermediate and thirds at 2 p.m. Basketball. Road Cycling. The Poneke Amateur Cycling Club will hold a 40-mile road race for the Aldridge Cup this afternoon. The course will be from the Central Fire Station to Quinn’s Post,. Trentham, and back, to the starting point by the same route. While the senior race is in progress the juniors will race over a distance of 23 miles. Both teams will start at 2 p.m. sharp. Golf. Following is the golfing programme for to-day:— Miramar: Mixed foursome flag match for Jellicoe Cup. Hutt: Third round for Oswald Chesney trophy. Titahi: Titahi v. Paekakariki, Watt Cup match; monthly bogey. Paekakariki: Paekakariki v. Titahi. Mary Alward Cup match. Manor Park : Manor Park v. Mornington ; stableford bogey; L.G.U. round fot women.
