WIRELESS IN JAIL
Mi’k-tin Camouflage A wireless set in a condensed-milk tin in a prisoner’s cell explained a mystery which had puzzled warders in a New South Wales jail till recently. Sydney race results were known by all prisoners within a few minutes of the finish. . One day a warder picked up an in-offensive-looking tin of condensed milk, on the lid of which milk had dried. That milk was a “blind.” The tin opened in the middle by the folding back of the wrapper. Inside was a tiny crystal set, with earphone and a coil wound on a cotton-reel. Early in March this year three wireless sets and a loaded revolver were found in a pig-pen at Parramatta jail. Apparently they had been thrown over the wall and were to have been collected by a- prisoner at the first onnortunity. Starting-price betting flourishes in the jails, and a radio set is a coveted "nssession.
