HUNT RACES

To-day’s Fields at Marton RANGITIKEI’S ANNUAL OUTING —- i Form and Prospects

(By

The Watcher.)

Excellent fields have accepted tor the annual race meeting of the Rangitikei Hunt Club to be held on the Marton course to-day, and With a clearance in the weather prospects are bright for a successful day. The Governor-General, Lord Galway, will be present and will hand the trophies to the winners. The going will probably be on the soft side, but should be in good order. In some events there is obvious form from recent racing, but in others the issue is very obscure and surprises may result. Betting Will be on the Single pool (75-25) system. The card is as follows: — 12.0—r-

GLENMORE MAIDEN RACE, of £BO. five furlongs

Backere will have considerable difficulty in-summing up the maiden problem. In addition to the quantity of unknown form there is the luck of, the draw to contend with. Fair form in public has been shown by Conversion, People’s Idol, Lady Horrlri and Ruenzori. while Royal Choice should improve On Foxton running. It is quite on the cards that something extra good may be concealed here, but the favourites may be Royal Choice and Conversion.

12.35— ROSEBANK HACK HURDLES, of £llO. One mile and a half.

Donegal’s form at Trentham may see him favourite here, but Bazaine and Iddo should run well, and. Unexpected also. Trackman did not reproduce hie Dannevirke form at Wellington, but he may do better. Glenthawn may make good as a jumner, but most support appears certain for Donegal and Iddo. —I.lo—

CLOSEBURN HACK HANDICAP, of £lOO Seven furlongs.

Hunting Queen and Terry ,-re likely on form, and Old Surrey, Even Money, Aube, Gladium and Parakino arc also form projects. Terry’s tendency to a slow beginning is not helpful, but her form is good. At the distance backers may prefer the chances of Old Surrey and Gladium or Parakino. 1.45— RANGITIKEI HUNT CUP STEEPLECHASE. of £llO. .Two miles and a

recent form prospects for the Hunt Cun. Tambo, Cynical Smile and Hymgreat look hunting fiossibles. The best backed may be Miss Paiigo and Sleepy. 2.20—

RIDDIFORD HANDICAP, of £llO. Six furlongs.

Royal Dance and Meria], although a poor one. but hie* form warrants consideration here. Catalogue and Brazen King are also form pror-pects. Of the others Airing and Taillight have recent good performances. Mustang in form would be hard, but he has not had a recent, race. Most money may come for Catalogue and Brazen King. 3.0—

OTAIRI LADIES’ BRACELET, of £5O. Otte miD and n quarter.

In the race for gentlemen riders the total’pators should be a reliable guide. On what hrs been seen of the runners in public the best backed may be Hirangi and Middle. 3.40—

It is possible that form may be romewhat more exposed by the time the last race arrives, but Joviality, on his Trentliam ehowings, looks like being the favourite. Airing, Winsome Lu and Gladium are other form prospects. The best b"cked may be Joviality and Airing, or 'Winsome Lu.
