Live Birds at Gun Clubs

Sir, —This correspondence is really most interesting. The silence of those accused of such heinous acts seems to indicate admission of their guilt. Have they nothing to say in their defence? It is hoped that as ■ a result of this correspondence some who have, in the past, indulged in this socalled sport unthinkingly will review their participation in such unworthy practices.—l am, etc., I DID ONCE. [When letters in hand are disposed of this correspondence must close.]

Bible in Schools

Sir, —Regarding your column report on the Bible-in-schools question in _ this morning’s “Dominion,” it is not my intention to reiterate what has been already said by capable writers, so I refrain from pointing out the several fallacies in the addresses reported. But the utterance of Miss McGill culls for comment. I hope she will forgive me when I say that she has done a great injustice to a great army of voluntary church workers when she says that the Church should look to its own business (as the school does), abandon out-of-date methods of teaching, and seek by scientific method to fill its Sunday schools rather, than force Bible study on the secular schools. I could pertinently ask: If secular education were-not compulsory, even with all its science and trained teachers, how many pupils would attend? The answer which will immediately occur to. every mind is in itself a decisive proof of the success of the methods which keep Sunday schools even “half filled.” A. great many able and diligent men and women have studied the matter of interesting Sunday school children for many years, A visit to one of our large Sunday' school publishing houses would probably be a revelation of efficiency and scientific method to many of your readers. There is no lack of ability in the manner in which the Church has tackled the problem of winning the children, but just as it would be impossible to guarantee a completely literate nation without compulsory education, so it is impossible to guarantee a completely Christian country (and by Christianity I mean living Christianity, not copybook morals) without compulsory Bible study.—l am. etc.. BRIAN SNOWBALL. Brooklyn, July 20.
