MODEL ENGINEERING
Classes For Centennial Exhibition A 'general meeting of the Wellington Model Engineering Society was held on Tuesday, evening, when Mr. It. Stent presided over a large gathering of members and visitors. It was reported that the question of fixing a standard for model speed boat contests hud been well received by the other model engineering societies in the Dominion, and some had already expressed their willingness to abide by “'The Model Engineer” standard. The Palmerston North Model Engineering Society had been successful with its new membership drive and there was every indication of that society resuming in the contest for the challenge shield. The secretary reported that he had been in touch with the Centennial Exhibition Company on the matter of the inclusion of model competition classes and the provision of a pond suitable for holding model speed boat (contests. The manager of the company was favourably inclined on the matter of the model-sec-tion, but before the company would take any steps he wanted an assurance of a certain number of entries, and the secretary had written to all the model engineering societies in the Dominion asking for their co-operation. The opinion was expressed that there should be no difficulty in every society fulfilling its quota of approximately twer five models. The lecturette for 4 evening was given by Mr. R. S. rherford on the subject of model boiler making. At. the next meeting three members. Messrs. C. J. Morton, J. 11. Skelley, and L. S. K. Murray will bring models and will answer questions on their construction instead of giving a lecturette in the usual manner. The first two members will answer questions on model railway construction, and the third on the construction of a model naval gun.
