College Drama Started Taylor's Career

A COLLEGE production of “Journey’s End,” seen by a studio executive four years ago, started Robert Taylor on a Hollywood screen career. Now he is co-starring with the late Jean Harlow in “The Man in Possession.” Taylor was born in Filley, Nebraska. August 5. the son of Dr. S. A. Brugh. a physician. Later the family moved to Beatrice, Nebraska, where the boy was educated in public, schools. He attended .college at Doane, Nebraska, for two years and finished his course at Pomona, California, where, in addition to his outstanding dramatic work, lie was a star tennis player. After .signing his studio contract Taylor completed the rema’ning months of his college course and graduated with a Liberal Arts degree. Louis B. Mayer, M-G-M studio bead, delegated himself as personal counsellor to Taylor. He advised him how’ to add personality to his wardrobe, how to invest bis money, and bow. above all. to cultivate patience. Buoyed by the executive's advice. Taylor waited patiently. After acquiring a new polish as outlined for him by Mayer, he made another screen test and was east forthwith in one of the featured roles in “Society Doctor.”
