HOUSES 12/6 A WEEK

Adelaide’s Example Dominion Special Service. Hastings, July 22. Brief but pointed reference to the Government’s housing scheme was made at a meeting of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce by the president, Mr. 11. AV. C. Baird, when a recent report about the housing scheme in Adelaide, South Australia, was before the chamber. The report showed that at Adelaide it was proposed to spend some £25,000 on a building scheme under which the houses would cost £450 to erect and the rent would be about 12/6 a week. “Now, why cannot our Government do something like that over hero?” asked Mr. Baird.

Mr. F. C. Rush-Munro: Then they started to build them so much nicer.”
