Australian Industrials Firm banks weaker last week ' A weaker tendency in banks and an improvement in Australian wdustrial issues were the principal features of the stock and share markets last week. , Tra ing was not active, and the recorded turn over was below the average of recent loans were firm on an active demand, but supplies-were scarce and business was restricted. Local body and company debentures were traded spar--lUBank of New Zetll l a ? d ened on sales from 44/(5 to 43/S, the D long-term mortgage shares were firmer at 27/3 to 27/6, but no dealings were reported. Commercial of Australia eased from 18/11 to 18/5, but recovered on Saturday to 18/8. National of New Zealand were weak at 61/14 to 60/-. Unions eased from £lO/15/- to £lO/14/-. end New South Wales sold down to £3o/a/-. Australasias were easier at £l2/10/-. national of Australasia were steady at £lo. Insurance shares were firm, Nationals selling at 18/3, New Zealands at 66/-, and South British at 97/-. Dalgetys firmed from £lO/2/6 to £lO/4/6, and Goldsbrough Morts from 34/9 to 35/3. Breweries were quiet and but _ little changed. There was not much doing in New Zealand industrials. Gear Meats sold at 16/9 and N.Z. Refrigerating, 10/paid, improved from 8/10 to 9/1. Australian industrials were definitely firmer. Australian Glass sold at 92/-,..and British Tobaccos at from 49/2 to 50/-. Colonial Sugars touched £47/17/6, but eased later to £47/10/-. Dunlop Perdriaus advanced on dividend expectations to 24/1 and eased later to 23/7. Hume Pipes improved from 19/5 to 20/-. Broken Hill Proprietary made a -goon recovery on active trading from 81/9 to 84/3. Electrolytic Zincs were irregular on profit-taking sales, and Mount Lyells showed little change on the week. Broken HilUSouths and North Broken Hills were a little easier. Mount Morgans weakened from 12/1 to 11/4. G. J. Coles advanced on the dividend and bonus share issue announcement to £5/11/6, but weakened later to £5/9/6. The Woolworths issues were less active and somewhat easier. Gold-mining shares were dull.
