Ministerial. The Hon. H. G. R. Mason, AttorneyGeneral, left Wellington for Auckland by the Limited express last night. Mr. Mason, who will address a meeting of his constituents at Henderson on Monday night, intends to return to Wellington early next week.
Captain S. E. A. Gregory returned to Wellington from the south yesterday. Mr. A. Derbie, Invercargill, arrived in ‘Wellington yesterday. Mr. A. T. C. Sellars, Fendalton, returned to the south last night ou the, steamer express. Mr. 11. S. E. Turner, Christdhurch, returned to the .south last night in the steamer express.
Tlie Rev. E. 0. Blamlres, Wellington, returned by the steamer express from the south yesterday. Mr. W. E. 'Wilson, Palmerston North, arrived in Wellington yesterday ou his return from Dunedin.
Mr. J. D. Sievwright, Wellington, was a passenger in the steamer express to the south last night. Mr. J. 11. Stewart, Dunedin, passed through Wellington yesterday on his way to the north. Mr. M. J. Syron, Government Dairy Instructor, has returned to Masterton after several weeks’ holiday in Sydney. Mr. B. E. 11. Wbitcombe, Christchurch, returned to the south yesterday in the steamer express. Mr. J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Undersecretary in Charge of Housing, returned to Wellington from New Plymouth last night. Mr. E. H. Slaber, of the Vacuum Oil Company, Limited, was a passenger to the south last night. He was accompanied by Mrs. Slaber. Mr. C. 11. Clibborn, secretary of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, returned to Christchurch from Wellington last night by the steamer express. Mr. A. J. Heighway, managing director of National Magazines, Limited, was a passenger on tlie Limited express to the north last night. Mr. J. E. Broadfoot, secretary ot the New Zealand Institute for the Blind, is at present visiting Hawke’s Bay. Mr. J. Savage, accompanied by his two daughters, the Misses L. and W. Savage, has returned to Masterton after an extended tour of Australia.
Mr. D. G. Ball, Inspector of Native Schools, returned to Wellington yesterday after having visited the Tuahiwi Maori School, Canterbury. Mr. John Michael, Dunedin, who has been transferred to tlie head office of tlie Labour Department, arrived in Wellington yesterday. Mr. H. Luke, of the Amalgamated Brick and Pipe Company, Limited, travelled to tlie north yesterday on tlie 3 p.m. express from Wellington. Messrs. J. Renton, secretary of the Otago Harbour Board, and Mr. J. MeG. Wilkie, engineer, arrived in Wellington yesterday by the steamer express from the south.
Mr. 11. F. Norman, general passenger manager of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., returned to Wellington yesterday by the Rangatira after a visit to South Island centres.
Mr. K. G. Smith, of James Smith, Ltd., who has been on a brief visit to London, arrived at Auckland by the Arawa yesterday afternoon and will reach Wellington by the Auckland train to-morrow morning. Colonel F. S. P. ' Nicholls, C.8.E., D. 5.0., officer commanding the Southern Military Command, retires from that jiosltion on superannuation today. Me will be succeeded by Colonel P. 11. Bell, D. 5.0., who formerly held the appointment of general staff officer, Central Military Command. Mr. I*. R. McMahon, son of Mr. and Mrs. J, MeMabon, Linton, has been granted his Ph.D., after extensive work on wool research at Leeds University, lie was a student at Massey Agricultural College from 1931 to 1933, in which year he graduated M.Agr.Se. He went to Leeds University in 1935 after winning the Macmillan Brown Scholarship.
