Wellington: Cold ana for the most part overcast, with occasional showers and a strong southerly wind. Heavy rain fell'in the late afternoon and at night. The , minimum temperature during Thursday night was 40.2 degrees, and the maximum yesterday 43.9 degrees. The temperature nt 3 p.m. was 42.7 degrees. Palmerston North: Although the morning was bright and fine, it later clouded over with a threat of rain; cold easterly wind. Mastei-ton: Bitterly cold and overcast with almost continual rain in the afternoon. Moderate westerly wind. Wanganui: Wet and stormy all day; very rough at: night. Waipuhurau: Dull, and bitterly cold; snow on the ranges. Napier and Hastings: Sunny in the morning, overcast in the afternoon, with a bitter south-west wind. Auckland: Fine and warm until the middle of the afternoon, when the wea. ther became colder and showery, the wind being moderate from the southwest. The barometer rose during the morning, and at 5 pirn, was steady at 30.04 in. Christchurch: Bleak and showery most of the day, though ’ the sun shone for n short time in the morning. Moderate south-west to south-south-west winds. Maximum temperature 44.2 degrees. Dunedin: Overcast, and in the afternoon several sharp showers fell.
