"LADIES' NIGHT"

Commercial Travellers

Entertain

Evil weather in no way affected the attendance at the AVelliugton Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association Club last night, when that popular annual fixture “ladies’ night” was held. This is always an eagerlyawaited event of the social season, and is always ats well attended as it is successful, and it is never anything but a great success. As is the custom, the proceedings opened witli tr concert, after which supper was served, followed by a dance that continued until a late hour. The concert was held in the reading-room, which was later cleared for dancing, and a most tempting sit-down supper was served in the attractive dining-room, where touch of colour was added by streamers of black and yellow, the association's colours, these’being repeated on the little white-clothed tables. Another room, the popularity of which was never in doubt, was the billiard-room, where many a husband found his wife’s trim surprisingly good and true.

The guests of honour were the president, Mr. H. H. Nash, and Mrs. Nash, who was wearing a frock of black lace with an evening coat of black ring velvet, with collar of white fox fur. On he r arrival, Mrs. Nash was presented with n charming bouquet by members of the staff.

Mr. L. B. Quinton and Mr. H. StraugeMure were in charge of the concert programme, which opened with the National Anthem and which was as follows Baritone solo, Mr. Ken Macaulay ; soprano solo, Miss Kythe Mticiver; selected items, Mr. J. Zachariah; contralto solo, Miss Eileen Courtenay; tenor solo, Mr. Ken Rigby; humour at the piano, Mr. Bert Goodland. Trevor and Dawn were seen in an adagio act that was loudly applauded.
