AT FOREST HILLS
Australian Davis Cup Team (Received May 10, 7.15 p.m.) New York, May 9. The Australian Davis Cup team arrived this morning and went directly to a private home which has been leased at Forest Hills near the stadium. The Manager, Mr. C. Sproule, said the team had had a fine trip and had m t with hospitality everywhere. A. K. Quist, J. H. Crawford, and J. Bromwich were in fine shape. V. B. McGrath was much improved and was certain to be ready to play against the Americans. Two days’ rest was all he needed to reach his top form. The arrivals of the Australians brought a large crowd to Forest Hills. Mr. Walter Pate led a delegation of American tennis officials to welcome the visitors. Replying, Mr. Sproule said the Australian players were eager to try the turf courts. He anticipated an extremely, close match with the United States. He believed Australia, .the United States, and Germany were about equal in strength. He declined to predict who would win the cup, and praised Bromwich as a player of unusual possibilities. F. N. Parker is the only member of the American team to arrive so far. B. Grant is due to-morrow, and J. D. Budge and C. G. Mako on Tuesday. Mr. Joseph Wear has been nominated as referee. SECOND ROUND PLAY London, May 9. Further results of Davis Cup second round matches are:— At Paris: France eliminated Norway. In tlie doubles M. Bernard and Tetra (France) defeated Beer and Jenssen (Norway), 6-2. 6-2, 6-2. At Bologna: Italy eliminated Monaco. V. Taroni and F. Quintavelle (Italy) defeated Landau and Medecin (Monaco), 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.
