CRIMINAL ABORTION

Meeting of 300 Women A national campaign against criminal abortion was urged by Dr. Doris Gordon, Str,afford, in an address to a meeting at New Plymouth of 300 women from the town and surrounding districts yesterday afternoon. The meeting, which was arranged by the National Council of Women, passed motions thanking the Government, for Initiating an inquiry into the various aspects of the problem and urging the appointment of a commission to report on" the law relating to criminal abortion and to recommend legislation required to make it more effective. Dr. Gordon said tlie problem transcended party politics. National character was threatened, as were population, prosperity, and progress. The problem bristled witli difficulties, but that, was all tlie more reason for a united front by all sane members of the country. A full report of the meeting appears on Page 10.
