King Solomon Gold Mine By Telegraph—Press Association. Gore, May 10. The chairman of directors of King Solomon Deep Ecad, Mr. Henry Smith, haa issued the following statement:— “At a meeting of the board held on Saturday evening—after the annual meeting of shareholders had adjourned for want of a quorum—it was decided that, owing to exhaustion of the company’s funds and lack of prospects for the future, the directors will recommend to the shareholders at the adjourned meeting that the mine be abandoned. The work of bringing the plant to the surface has been commenced.” During its working life the King Solomon mine has produced 19,3030 z. of gold valued at £131,529, after paying £9192 in gold tax. Taranaki Oil Fields The chairman of Taranaki (N.Z.) Oil Fields N.L. 7Mr. W. A. Watt) and the managing director (Sir Colin Fraser) recently arrived in New Zealand. It is understood that while in New Zealand they will negotiate with overseas oil interests for the drilling of the company’s concessions on the east coast of the North Island. At the annual meeting in October Mr. Watt said that the negotiations promised to result in a satisfactory arrangement being made, which would mean that the financial and technical resources and experience of a largo successful overseas organisation would be directed toward the testing and drilling of the company’s most prvmising structural areas in the Hawke’s Bay-Gisborne district.
