Shipments to United Kingdom Arrivals of mutton and lamb in the United Kingdom last month compare as follows with those for April, 1936. Mutton.

Limited, report tor month of April:—No. 6 crosscut*: Two shifts were employed until the 27th, and since that date three shifts per day have been worked for a footage of 89 teet for the period, making 250 feet from the surface. The country passed through is good reeling country, and carries a reef track at 235 ft. in from the surface. The reef track when passed through showed small runs of soft quartz, samples of this being sent for assay, the results not yet being to hand. The face shows good l-ount.rv with a small amount of water issuing from the roof. Stoping: Stoping lias been carried on as usual* in No. 5 and the intermediate backs. No. 5 backs show no change, with the exception of a shortening of stoping ground on the extreme north end. but a corresponding lengthening occurs on the extreme south end"of the block. Above the intermediate a crosscut was put out west, and the faulted portion of the lode about the middle of the block recovered. The stone is from two to three feet wide, and fine gold is visible. Battery: During the mouth 340 tons were sent to the battery, and 340 tons were crushed, for a returh of 160 oz. lOdwt. of meltyd gold. During the same period the cyanide department treated 220 tons of sands for 48oz. 2dwt. of bullion. Total estimated value, £1423. In addition. 71 tons of concentrates were saved, valued at £240. (Note: In estimating the above values, gold has been taken'at 145/- per fine ounce.)
