Wellington Markets Quiet SHARP RISE IN G. J. COLES A sharp rise in G. J. Coles was the principal feature in yesterday's markets on the Wellington *_Stock Exchange. Business opened at £5/9/-, and after a deal at £5/10/-, two sales were made at £5/13/-. More were wanted at that price, but holders asked £5/14/6. Apart from this, the markets showed little change- Trading was not active and several issues showed an easier tendency. Wellington Gas were done at 35/6, and New Zealand Breweries at 59 /5. There was a good demand for banks, but buyers’ offers were on the easy side. New Zealand ordinaries had business at 43/11 and 44/-, and the D long term mortgage issue went unchanged at 26/6. Unions were easy at £ll/5/-._ tralasias found support at £l2/5/-, sellers asking 10/- better. Commercial of Australia were wanted at 19/5, sellers quoting a penny higher. National of New Zealand were in request at o-/-. but holders asked 2/- more. Industrials, particularly New Zealand issues, were very dull, but Australians were inclined to firm. There were unsupported buyers of Australian Glass at 94/3, and offers of 49/6 for British Tobaccos found no response. Broken Hill Proprietary were steady on business at 84/9.
