FORSGREN LOSES TO RICHARDS

Canadian Disqualified CROWD DEMONSTRATES AT WRESTLING Rough tactics earned disqualification, for the Vancouver fireman-wrestler, Jack Forsgren, when he met Ray Richards at the Wellington Town Hall last night ia the presence of a large and excited crowd. Richards took a fall in the third round with flying tackles, dump, and press. Two rounds later Forsgren had his revenge with his favourite hold, a boston crab. There was a good deal of rough play, and Forsgren several times drew on himself the referee’s reproof and the boos of the crowd. Finally he knocked Richards down and flattened him with rabbit punches, at which the referee raised the prostrate Richards’s hand in token of success. Forsgren stamped round the ring gesticulating wildly, while amused spectators showered programmes and pennies on to the mat. Forsgren had clearly reestablished his last year’s reputation as favourite “villain” of the mat. Richards (16st. 91b.) entered the ring first, vaulting the high ropes easily; Forsgren (16st. 111 b.) was escorted to the ringside by a bodyguard of firemen in full regalia. Smiling cheerfully, Richards rolled. Forsgren over with a headlock, but a moment later Forsgren had him in an armstretch and was bouncing weightily on his biceps. Grasping Richards in a toehold, he hit him on the back of the neck. Two hard elbow-jolts made Richards blink, but dropping as Forsgren approached, he tripped him neatly, took him in a toehold, and knuckled his spine brutally. Forsgren bounced with rage when he got up. He ran Richards on to the ropes, but the referee, Mr. A. Jenkins, separated them. While Forsgren was discussing the matter with Mr. Jenkins, Richards landed an elbow-jolt. He chased Forsgren round the ring until he hopped through the ropes. While the referee was counting, Richards jostled Forsgren off the edge of the staging into the audience. As soon as he climbed back, Richards slung him out again on the other side. The spectators, who were in high spirits, yelled gleefully when he came back and smote Richards with a forearm to the ribs. Richards leaned on the ropes massaging the spot. Holding Richards on the mat with a headlock, Forsgren sent home a series of jolts that made his victim grunt. An attempt to use his knee for the same purpose, however, caused the referee to warn him: “Don’t you do that again I” Separated, they resumed the perpendicular, and Forsgren battered Richards with jolts, first into a corner, then to the mat. He hauled him out into the ring, trying for a boston crab. Richards, however, wriggled ftge and hounded Forsgren round the ring with swings of the open palm, Forsgren gesticulating wildly as he fled. Fall to Richards. Forsgren applied a hammerlock, holding fast though Richards threw him head over heels. He changed the hold to an armstretch. Then he knocked Richards down with a jolt and kicked him. The crowd booed enthusiastically. Forsgren hurled Richards into the ropes, but the latter rebounded with a force that knocked the Canadian off his feet. As soon as he got up another flying tackle floored him again, and after a couple more and a few headlock throws, Richards was able to dump and press him. Time, Imin. 5U see. in the third round. Forsgren spent the interval remonstrating with the referee, and shaking his fists. On returning, he applied a facehold which the referee broke by leaping on top of the pair. Richards then rushed Forsgren into a corner, and chastised him with swinging blows. Forsgren clambered out of the ring. When ho came back Richards hustled him out again at the other side, doubling him over the ropes. The referee, trampling on Forsgren’s features, strove vainly to restore order. “You get iuside and count I” roared Forsgren. He climbed into th© arena reluctantly. After a little straight wrestlingsomething in which the later phases were singularlj- lacking—Forsgren again applied rough tactics. Failing to dump him, Richards pursued him with vigorous blows of his straight arms; Forsgren promptly knocked him down with a jolt, and kicked him repeatedly until the referee stopped him. The crowd, on its feet, howled mixed applause and disapproval. Forsgren rushed Richards into a corner, and felled him with a couple of sturdy'jolts. Then he kicked and jumped on him. As Richards was lying under the ropes the referee intruded. He had hard work persuading Forsgren to dessist. Forsgren dragged Richards into the ring and applied a boston crab, to which the other wisely submitted. Time, 2min. 58sec. for the fifth round. The Final Round. Forsgren opened the final round with a whirl-wind attack. His trail of forearm blows dazed Richards. The latter mustered his failing strength to foil a boston crab, and butt Fors, green in the stomach. But that was his last effort. Forsgren struck him down with a couple of blows of the clasped hands on tho nape of his opponent’s neck. The referee thereupon disqualified him. While Richards’s seconds helped him out of the ring, Forsgren * gave an exhibition of chagrin and disappointment. Standing in a snowstorm of falling paper, programmes and copper coins, he waved his arms and expostulated vainly, his reluctant departure from the ring being in marked contrast to his entry with his bodyguard of firemen.
