FOOTWEAR REPAIRS

Higher Prices Authorised MEETING INCREASED COSTS An increase in the price of footwear repairs was decided on at a meeting of the Dominion Federated Boot Trades’ Association held in Wellington last night. The new prices will range from S/G for men’s half-soling and heeling, sewn; riveted, 7/6; women’s, 6/6 aud 5/6. In country districts aud some South Island centres where freights are higher, tile charges will be 6d. extra. The secretary of the association. Mr. G. Shields, said last night that with the big increase in the price of leather it had been found necessary to increase the price of repairs, but in view of the fact that the increase might possibly be temporary, the federation wiis advising its affiliated associations not to go beyond a certain limit. Almost every association in the Dominion either had raised or was about to raise prices in the near future to compensate to a certain extent for the increased cost of all repairing materials. During the last eight months leather and grindery had increased in cost by approximately 374 per cent. To meet this it was necessary to increase the price of repairs by 15 per cent. There was no wish exploit the public, but merely to tix a price remunerative to the tradesman . If the upward tendency in the price of leather continued, the price of repairs might have to be further revised in the near future.
