Failure to Stop After Accident Alleged By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, May 10. “A boy of 13. who was knocked off his bicycle, is in hospital in a serious condition,” said Sub-Inspector Maclean in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when Allan Mangels, labourer, aged 35, was charged with failing to stop his car after he had been involved in an accident causing injury to Clarence Herbert Richard on the Main South Road on Saturday evening. “The boy is suffering from a crushed pelvis and fractured vertebrae, and it is doubtful what will happen,” said the sub-inspector, who asked that bail should be substantial, as he wished Mangels to be remanded for a week. The remand was granted, and bail was fixed at £5OO, with one surety of £5OO Richard was found lying on the road at Hornby. His bicycle, badly damaged, and a headlamp smashed off the motor-car were found some distance away. Detectives were sent out from the Central Police Station, and made an arrest three hours later.
