DAMAGE TO RAILWAY ENGINE
Charge Arising From Crossing Accident Dominion Special Service. Napier, May 10. A Hastings farmer. Francis Stanley Rhodes', appeared before Mr. J. Miller, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Napier to-day bn a charge of crossing a railway line that was not clear. Rhodes was ordered to pay costs 10/- and £2/11/9 for damages to a railway engine as a result of a collision. Fourteen days were allowed in which to make payment. Mr. W. L. Bate, who appeared for defendant, said the accident had resulted in the complete destruction of defendant’s vehicle, and suggested that defendant had been sufficiently punished. “Attempting to cross a railway line may cause a serious accident, and the offence is dealt with differently to other eases,” said the magistrate.
