Central Beat St. George in Tight Game Rattling on the points by determined attacks in the latter part of the second spell, Central beat St. George by 16 points to 12 in a Rugby League match at Newtown Park on Saturday. Scorers for the winners were C. Berry, L. Coombs, Johnson and A. Jamieson, and W. Dixon converted a try and kicked a penalty goal. For St. George K. Mailman scored twice, and W. Spencer converted one try and put over two penalty kicks. Until the second spell it was anybody’s game, but then Central repeated their performance on the previous week and forged ahead to win. Both packs were playing a very close.game and were offering few opportunities to their opponents. Realising the danger of St. George’s fast back line, Central kept the game tight and effectually bottled them up Central faced a fairly strong northerly in the first spell, most of which saw see-saw play. The score at ball-time stood at 9-5 in favour of St. George. . First blood went to St. George within five minutes of the start when Mailman went across and Spencer converted.
