By-election in York London, May 6. Tlie by-election in tlie York electorate owing to Mr. L. R. Lumley’s appointment to the Governorship of Bombay, resulted: — Charles Wood (National Conservative) 22,045 John Dugdale (Labour) 17,896 Conservative majority ... 4,149 The Hon. Charles Wood is the eldest son of Lord Halifax, and Mr. Dugdale is secretary to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. C. R. Attlee. At the 1935 general election Mr. Lumley secured 25,442 votes and his Labour opponent, Mr. R. Fraser, 19,163 votes.
