91 YEARS OLD

Mrs. Harriet Mullinder, Otane A happy birthday gathering was held at Otane during the week, when’a large company of well-wishers came tS the residence of Mrs. Knight to offer congratulations and birthday greetings to Mrs. Harriet Mullinder. Mrs. Knight’s mother, who to-day atatined thq age of 96 years, says a "Dominion” Special Service message. Only a few weeks ago a brother, Mr. Walter Slater, celebrated his 91st birthday at Napier. Mrs. Mullinder -was born in London on May 6, 1841, and left for New Zealand with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John .Slater, at 18 years ofage. The ship Wild Duck, in which she was a passenger, arrived at Wellington on February 3, 1860; on February 3, 1863, she experienced the exceptionally heavy Wellington earthquake; and February 3, 1931, is remembered by her because of the disastrous Hawke’s Bay earthquake.

Despite her great age, Mrs. Mullinder enjoys good health and has an amazing memory. She is at present residing with her daughter, Mrs. A. Knight, Otane. In addition Io Mrs. Knight, there are two other daughters, Mrs. B. Sims, Sydney, and Mrs. W. L. Yates, Napier and three sons. Messrs. A. H. Mullinder, Hastings, A. A. Mullinder, Norsewood, and G. Mullinder, Auckland.
