The long hours which Chinese children were expected to study at primary schools in his youth were mentioned by the prominent Chinese preacher, Dr. T. Z. Koo, in an address at Auckland. He said he went to school at about seven o’clock in the morning, and did not leave until it was too dark to see, the only interval being a break for one meal. This training was purely of the mind, with no physical aspect.
