JUBILEE CUP

Hawke’s Bay Meeting Opens To-day GOOD CONTEST LIKELY Form and Prospects (By The Watcheb.) Principal interest to-day at Hastings at the opening of the Hawke’s Bay autumn meeting will centre in the contest for the Jubilee Cup. for which 14 have accepted, and it should be a eonter-t worthy of the occasion. A very satisfactory list of acceptances was received for other events on the programme, and a day of good racing is in prospect. Hawke’s Bay has not had the rain that other districts have experienced, and the going will be firm and fast. Betting will be on the single pool system and the card is as follows: — 12.30— BIVERSLEA HURDLE HANDICAP, of £l2O. One mile and a half. Journet .... 11 2 Iddo 9 3 Lord Hereford 10 8 Cotsfield ~9 3 Taumau .... 911 Unexpected . 9 0 Journet will have to improve a lot on Woodville form to reverse places with Iddo, who looks a good prospect. Lord Hereford will probably go better, at this game than at ’chasing. There was a good deal of support for him. over country at Woodville. Taumau is a recruit who has been schooling well, and Cotsfield is brilliant over the distance. The best backed may be Iddo and Lord Hereford. 4.10 1 " POUKAWA MAIDEN, of £lOO. Five furlongs and a half. Clavereourt . S' 7 Buster Brown 8 7

will probably experience difficulty with the maiden field, as there is no form outstanding. Favourites may be King’s Hope and Asset.

The . Jazz Boy—Top Hat bracket may be favourite, but. Fossicker and Gironde are form possibili’ies, while Lacquer mav improve on her Woodville form. Nereus and Quake also have to be considered. The bracketed pair are likely favourites | and Fossicker should also be well sup- t ported. -•SO— a. HAWKE’S BAY CUP HANDICAP, of £275.

Several horses have good form prospects in the cup. the list extending from Big Dock right down to and including ' Mandamus. Of the lightweights Passion Flower and Soho look the likeliest, though Padishah should be capable of springing a surprise. The weights.-, on Manawatu and Woodville form, cannot be found to favour any single runner, and it will be a question of the best horse on the day from eight or nine runners. The best backed may be Haut Monde and Catalogue (or Mandamus). 3.15—

juveniles, as the weighty indicate. Felicitation. Money Raid and Airini are also form prospects. The beet backed may be The Crooner and Airini. 3.55— HERETAUNGA HANDICAP, of £lOO. One mile and one furlong.

Luciillus Lad’s Woodvile] form was not encouraging, but he may improve. Seyfried, Tupai. Black Fox, Grey Molly, Parry and Trailer may go well. The field is far from strong and most money may come for Seyfried and Trailer. 4.35— HAVELOCK FLYING HANDICAP, of £l5O. Six furlongs.

The horse, if he is in form, for the sprint is Sir Nigel, but he may be a trifle fresh. Lavina, Hunter’s Morn, Blygain and Gasman have form prospects. The favourites may be Sir Nigel and Hunter’s Morn.
