BANK OVERDRAFT CHARGES
The chairman of one of the “Big Five” B'-itish banks. Lloyd’s, referred to the 20.274 farmers who had overdrafts with his bank. The average amount was £643. and only 63 farmers failed during last year. It was stated by one farmers' journal that most sound farmers could obtain credit at 4 per cent. This is lower than the rates in New Zea’and or Australia, but so. too. are Government rates lower at Home. The latest loan was a 24 per cent, one, whereas in New Zealand 3J per cent. is now considered normal.
